About Rainbow Bigbottom

Hello my lovely friends! I’m Lorraine Brooker - aka, Rainbow Bigbottom, and I’ve been sprinkling magic, music, and laughter over the UK since 1988. I am based in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. My Rainbow Clownettes and I have delighted children and families with party entertainment for more than thirty years.

Now, my journey to becoming a children’s entertainer was quite an adventure! First, I tried being a magician’s assistant - but I couldn’t fit into the illusion box! Then, I gave dancing at the Moulin Rouge a whirl, but quickly realised it wasn’t for me, after failing the first audition, not being a great dancer.

What I did have was reliability, and a big, sparkly gift for making children laugh and smile, developed over years working as a nanny. With a costume lovingly made by my mum, I first stepped out as Rainbow Bigbottom in 1988, making birthday parties magical while working toward my Equity card.

One day, a theatre manager saw me perform and invited me onto the stage - from there, my shows grew into magical adventures filled with singing, dancing, and a little bit of magical dust. We successfully toured the UK, visiting venues all over the country. To help with a quick scene change, I introduced a tiny glove puppet called Mr. Panda. The children loved him so much that he soon became the star of the show! With a little magic, he transformed into an enormous eight-foot panda, singing, dancing, and spreading joy wherever he went.

My company grew and over the years I have gained beautiful friendships with my Clownettes and actors who have performed both on stage and in family / corporate events.

Of course, life isn’t always smooth sailing. In 2000, I faced some big battles with illness, including Hodgkin’s lymphoma and later kidney cancer in 2021. But those challenges only made me more determined to bring laughter and wonder to children, because joy is the best kind of medicine. My personal wish is to travel and meet those children who may need a little bit of sparkle added to their lives.
